AON is adopting stablecoins for settlement.
AON has announced that it has successfully completed stablecoin settlement testing for insurance premiums. This is largely the result of a trial run between industry leaders Paxos and Coinbase, who paid their policy premiums in PYUSD and USDC stablecoins.
AON Financial Services Group CEO Tim Fletcher expressed:
Our position as a first mover in accepting stablecoin to settle insurance premiums advances our commitment to innovating on behalf of clients to better serve their needs.”
For international clients, as well as for domestic policyholders, this allows a new channel for making payments that goes beyond traditional wires, credit cards, or even newer service providers, such as Flywire.
Other insurers may soon follow suit and start adopting stablecoins for such activities.
Additionally, this also opens up the overarching insurance industry to another category: stablecoin cover insurance. In the coming years, it is likely that a whole new set of policies will be underwritten purely on the risk of any non-insured stablecoin transfers made by large enterprises.
