Cross River announced it is adopting RLUSD.
The bank selected Ripple and its RLUSD stablecoin to support stablecoin payments made across its Core Operating System.
This will be available in selected states and aims to assist fintech companies. RLUSD now joins Circle’s USDC stablecoin as part of Cross River digital asset solutions.
Recently, Ripple partnered with Privy to expand stablecoin wallets on XRPL.
A Relationship That Dates to 2014
Cross River and Ripple worked together since 2014.
The pair initially looked to incorporate blockchain technology at a time before stablecoins became mainstream for cross-border settlement, payouts, payments, trading, or used in collateral.
Back then, it was believed that native tokens would eventually replace fiat cash and traditional currencies.
However, Ripple as a company evolved with the times and eventually issued its own stablecoin RLUSD.
Its stablecoin reserves for August was published last month.
Stablecoin Banking
Cross River is another example of how banks are modernizing.
The bank already offers stablecoin-enabled products to fintechs, corporate clients, and other large financial institutions. Last year, it expressed interest with Visa’s stablecoin advisory.
Cross River stablecoin API targets a shifting landscape where funding and payments are 24/7. It is also powering payments for companies with large distribution of consumers, such as X.
2026 is a year that banks acknowledged that the status quo was no longer enough, as more U.S. banks are considering integrating stablecoins and tokenized deposits.
Larger commercial and investment banks are in plans to launch a joint stablecoin in 2027.
Businesses are being built globally from day one; top players prefer their own economics; and AI Agents are beginning to manage payments, requiring programmable money altogether.
