Mastercard is choosing to work with Borderless to improve stablecoin compliance.
The two companies are expected to participate in a stablecoin pilot in order to test out the application of Mastercard’s Crypto Credential program, which was originally announced back in Q4 2025 and is continuing to add new industry partners.
This includes things like oversight of Travel Rule compliance, wallet addresses and usernames, as well as ensuring that crypto native tokens and assets used are able to be actually safely sent and received by parties on either side of the transaction.
Stablecoin Forex
Borderless operates a network of stablecoin payments and is focused on improving global liquidity for stablecoin forex and local currency stablecoin to U.S. dollar stablecoin trading pairs, especially across high volume emerging market corridors.
The company had released a key report a few weeks ago describing their research findings, such as that for some stablecoin FX corridors, the rate had either met or provided a cheaper alternative to current interbank FX rates.
As cross-border transactions increase with digital assets and stablecoins, so will the compliance and reporting requirements for authorizing networks like Mastercard and Visa.
Mastercard’s Stablecoin Strategy
Mastercard is eyeing the stablecoin sector as a long-term bet.
While this partnership helps the team gain a better understanding for how to use modern compliance tools for stablecoin transfers, it also provides an opportunity to familiarize with stablecoin FX liquidity market, as well as the Borderless team itself.
Indeed, there could still be more industry players that could join the global card and authorization network in the coming months. Following its acquisition of BVNK back in March, Mastercard has confirmed that their team is now officially a part of the company.
Additionally, the leadership is fully aware of the competition with fellow competitor Visa.
Earlier this year, a key stablecoin report by Artemis found out that over 90% of stablecoin card volumes that actively settle do so over Visa’s competing network’s rails.
With stablecoin integrations, pilots, and working groups such as the recent announcement together with Yellow Card, Mastercard is keeping up not fall behind the stablecoin race.
