Visa unveiled its ongoing partnership with CreditCoop.

The two companies have been working to improve the use of stablecoins in credit-based initiatives where verified businesses can borrow balances against settlement receivables.

Visa also announced that its annualized stablecoin card volume has reached $20B. Its latest quarterly earnings and stablecoin platform showed that it is fully embracing the stablecoin strategy.

Stablecoin Credit and Financing

Stablecoins are frequently referred to when sending or receiving payments. This is both for domestic and cross-border transfers.

However, a growing use-case for stablecoins is becoming the everyday capital that is required for card programs and providers when settling transactions at the end of the day.

Here, stablecoins are offered as credit for financing the obligations card programs have to pay to Visa and merchants before they have received the money directly from consumers using their cards.

CreditCoop is running this for some of the biggest companies offering stablecoin and crypto cards.

Its largest customer is Rain with around $1.3B in borrowed capital and $1.8M interest so far, followed by Karta in second place with $23.3M in borrowed capital and $478.2K interest.

Companies like Rain, Karta, and others are all required to send settlement funds to Visa to ensure payments go through. If there is a gap in the capital, platforms such as CreditCoop offer short-term financing to backstop this.

Additionally, newcomers are not disadvantaged from a new credit history. Stablecoin financing can be approved based on receivables and are double checked with Visa data using a smart contract.

This is a growing area beneficial for Visa as it currently authorizes 160 global card programs. Recently, stablecoin card top ups reached $1B monthly volume in July.
