Aviva funds are going onchain.
Aviva has officially launched a new second tokenized offering for its Sterling Liquidity Fund on Ripple’s XRP Ledger. This brings its total investments across tokenized money markets to $116M.
This is in partnership with Komainu, Licuido, and BNY Mellon. It follows on from an initial partnership with Ripple in Q1 2026.
Recently, Ripple partnered Privy to grow stablecoin wallets on XRPL.
Tokenized Shares
This allows for Aviva to issue “digital twins” of its shares.
That means that for every share managed across legacy systems, there is an identical copy stored, processed, and managed.
It doesn’t necessarily change the investment portfolio or underlying thesis being carried out.
In this case its UK Sterling debt instruments under its Sterling Liquidity Fund on XRPL.
However, there are many competing models of tokenization that ultimately changes the nuance of who owns the share and what corporate actions are allowed as a result.
This may involve a single or dual issuance model, varying degrees for ownership of onchain shares (of securities vs. investment vehicles), and other aspects of redemption and legitimacy.
Recently, DTCC’s tokenization pilot showed adoption on the institutional side.
This may differ from tokenized investment products offered by platforms like Robinhood, Coinbase, and Payward tailoring more to professional and retail investors.
As this market matures, it will become clearer which models are preferred.
Tokenization in Insurance
Insurance more broadly may adopt tokenization and stablecoins.
Insurance markets are a real use-case because they present regional and global opportunities to improve the speed and accessibility of its investment products.
Earlier this year Coinbase and AON partnered to explore payouts and settlement in stablecoins.
That’s more on the operational and logistical side of things.
Over the summer, the Bermuda Monetary Authority (BMA) opened a consultation for underwriters and investment managers for using stablecoins in across securities.
The latter potentially allows for greater participation and liquidity across key markets.
