Circle’s plans for 2027 are expansive.
The USDC issuer is targeting expansion into 40 new markets as the official start of the Genius Act in the U.S. invites more adoption across businesses and individuals worldwide.
Per Reuters CEO Jeremy Allaire spoke on the pent up demand for the U.S. Dollar in emerging economies, calling it “a watershed moment”. Circle has framed USDC as the regulated stablecoin.
Circle’s Arc network is live and will play a big role in this.
New Oversight for Circle in Europe
Only a few days ago, the European Banking Authority (EBA) clarified that Circle is now under its regulatory oversight.
Specifically, its USDC stablecoin is labelled a significant Electronic Money Token (EMT). USDC is the first stablecoin achieve this.
This is also similar to the Bank of England systemic and non-systemic UK stablecoin framework.
Circle’s European issuing entity will have supervision from Autorité de Contrôle Prudentiel et de Résolution (ACPR) arm of the EBA.
This is on aspects of issuance, collateral, and reserve management activities. Additionally, there will be a joint-cooperation with the New York Department of Financial Services (NYDFS).
Interestingly, the European Central Bank (ECB) recently critiqued the stablecoin deposit reserve rule currently under the MiCA framework, hinting at financial instability.
Last month, Circle published its USDC stablecoin reserves.
